Becoming more active in blogging

Hi there,

Welcome on my blog! After a long time I decided it’s time to become more active again. I haven’t been active for a while. Over the past years many things have changed and I gained many interesting experiences. I think that as a person I have definitely grown, yet there is still room for more growth!

Growing seed

Recently I noticed something interesting. When I talk to my friends they are all happy to listen to my stories, advice, feedback and experiences. In return I love hearing their experiences and stories. A couple of months ago one of my close friends suggested me to start writing more about my life, my interest in cultures, food and travel. Back then I didn’t realize it yet, but she was actually nourishing one of my seeds that was growing in my subconscious mind. For privacy reasons I’m not going to mention her name, but basically she told me indirectly what my close friends were telling me:

“Please share more about your life!”

Fast forward

The past weeks I have been listening to inspiring podcasts like Michael Hyatt and John Corcoran. In one of the podcasts Michael was persisting that anyone who wants to be a leader and inspire others that you should become an active blogger. You have to lead by example. This really resonated with me. I was already being active on twitter, but haven’t been active in blogging yet. In addition to being inspired by podcasts, my girlfriend suggested me to write something on my blog.

So here I am!

Great, I know I want to blog, but what should I share? I am thinking about posting every one or two weeks about the following topics:

  • Travel in Europe and Asia
  • Weekly summaries of my favorite links I shared on twitter
  • Food
  • Health
  • Cultures
  • Music with beautiful lyrics
  • Long distance relationship experiences and tips
  • Tips & Tricks
  • Online courses
  • Coding tips and tutorials
  • Etc..

Please let me know if you think there is a topic missing. With my blog posts I really hope to inspire and help others. If you are interested feel free to connect with me on Twitter or LinkedIn.

Cheers!

Your life is a gift. Now go make it count!

PBSViewer on google code

Google code: hoster for open source projects

Finally I have found some time to start up a project on google code for PBSViewer. More information of PBSViewer can be found on this page.

Google code is a place where open source projects are being hosted for free, it is mainly used by developers. There are other sites that provide this kind of hosting as well,  like sourceforge, however I chose google code because it is simple, fast and reliable. Another reason why I chose for google code is that my project PBSViewer is quite small, it does not contain a lot of files and currently only one person (me) is contributing to this project. With google code it is very easy to manage the development of PBSViewer.

For my project I am looking for members who can contribute to this project. Several things can be done:

  • Testing PBSViewer for different games and environments
  • Work as developer and improve/add features
  • Add new awesome graphics as artist
  • Create documentation
  • Help with translation

case study minor 3DVE, velas3D tool

For the final project (also called case-study) of minor 3D virtual earth given at TU Delft we created a tool (velas3D) to improve the accessibility and the handling of the AHN2 dataset. The AHN2 (Actueel Hoogtebestand Nederland) dataset is an elevation dataset covering whole Netherlands.  It contains about 10 points/m² so that’s about 338,000,000,000 points. This AHN2 dataset is ordered in tiles. With the tool velas3D it is possible to download seamless datasets.

The project was done in a group of 3 students (Michiel Degen, Ravi Peters and me, Brett Rijnders) all with different backgrounds (respectively: “Technology, Policy and Management“, “electrical engineering” and  “Aerospace engineering“). For this project we had about 9 weeks and it was supervised by Hugo Ledoux and Gerwin de Haan.  The presentation was held last Wednesday March 10th 2010, it was made in prezi:

The name of the tool “velas3D” is partly based on the special file format we used. We used the binary las format to work with AHN2 dataset. This dataset is actually a 3D dataset, therefore we used 3D in the tool name. Since we were dealing with a Virtual Earth in our tool we also put the first letters “ve” in the name of our tool.  More information about our Velas3D tool can be found in our paper:

3D model aerospace engineering

I added a new 3D model on the 3D graphics page. It’s a 3D model of my faculty aerospace engineering at TU Delft.

3D aerospace building

The model was created in google sketchup and is available on google warehouse. At google warehouse I requested a place in the 3D buildings layer of google earth. Hopefully they accept my model. Below you can see the 3D model in the 3D viewer of goole warehouse.

I’ve made this model during my minor course of 3D virtual earth. This interfaculty and multidisciplinary program was hosted by geomatics, aerospace engineering and civil engineering at TU Delft.

More info can be found on the 3D graphics page. If you have any questions, please use the contact page or just post a comment.
